Zhoushan, an island city in East China's Zhejiang province, welcomed 844,700 tourists during the recent seven-day National Day holiday, local media reported on Oct 8.

Visitors from outside Zhejiang, including Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, and Shanghai, accounted for 59.3 percent of the total.

Putuo Mountain and Zhujiajian scenic areas were the most popular tourist destinations, receiving 254,500 and 236,800 visitors respectively.

All the districts and counties in Zhoushan organized special activities to celebrate National Day and entertain tourists, including a photographic exhibition in Dinghai district, a fishermen's painting class in Daishan county, as well as a paper cutting show in Putuo district.
