Glamping, also known as glamorous camping or luxury camping, has become a growing global phenomenon attracting tourists who are interested in enjoying the great outdoors without the hassle to places like Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.
The islands city is expected to receive large number of glampers during the approaching National Day holiday, which lasts from Oct 1 to 7, according to the reservation information from local glamping sites.
As one recent visitor to camping supplier Nomanland's glamping site on Cishan Island in Zhoushan's Dinghai district noted, "There's no need to buy equipment, no demand of any survival skills in the wild, and it just costs 1,000 yuan ($154.84) to enjoy camping on an island."
In 2017, Nomanland opened its glamping site on Cishan Island after opening its first glamping site in Hangzhou.
"A few years ago, we just started our businesses during the peak seasons in the spring and autumn. In 2020, when the COVID-19 epidemic subsided in China, we began operating the business all year round," said the director of the Nomanland's campsite on Cishan Island.
He still recalls the large amount of orders he received after the business reopened last year.
"Last year, our campsite welcomed more than 2,000 tourists, mainly from Hangzhou and Shanghai, with one third of them being regular customers," noted the director, who also expressed confidence in the potential for glamping's further development in Zhoushan.
In recent days, he has been planning Nomanland's second glamping in Zhoushan.
