Zhoushan's foreign trade up 39.9% in Jan-Aug

The foreign trade in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, increased 39.9 percent year-on-year to 152.94 billion yuan ($23.65 billion) in the first eight months of the year, local media reported.

The export value jumped 36.1 percent year-on-year to 51.7 percent while the import value soared 41.8 percent year-on-year to 101.24 billion yuan.

The three figures accounted for 5.8 percent, 2.7 percent and 13.9 percent of the provincial totals respectively.

From January to August, the cargo throughput of Zhoushan port area amounted to 400.21 million metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percent, including 1.23 million twenty-feet equivalent units, a year-on-year increase of 8.1 percent.

The throughput of grain, coals, as well as oil and gas experienced rapid growth with year-on-year increases of 61.5 percent, 39.3 percent and 9.6 percent respectively.

The actual utilization of foreign capital by Zhoushan in the Jan-Aug period surged 67 percent year-on-year to $360 million.
