The fishing season in the East China Sea officially began at 6 am on Sept 7 after the annual four-month summer fishing moratorium.

More than 2,100 fishing boats in Zhoushan's Putuo district sailed into the sea to catch various types of seafood, including hairtails, butterfish, sea eels, and little yellow croakers.

Due to the impact of Typhoon Chanthu, this year's opening day of the fishing season in the East China Sea was postponed by a day.

China has imposed the annual fishing ban in the East China Sea since 1995 as part of the country's efforts to promote sustainable marine fishery development and improve its marine ecology.
