Zhoushan, a coastal city in East China's Zhejiang province, is working on solutions to boost its green development in an effort to bolster the harmonious coexistence of people and nature.

Dinghai district of Zhoushan boasts 128 islands, as well as faces great challenges like climate change and rising sea levels. It has set the goal of having net zero carbon emissions by balancing the amount of carbon dioxide emissions and removal.

The district has issued a roadmap (2021-30) to guide its rural areas to reach carbon neutrality, laying out nine "action paths", ranging from strengthening the use of new energy resources to improving public transportation.

A batch of newly built holiday houses along the mountain in Dinghai district has been designed to save energy for heating and cooling by basing its orientation on the surrounding natural environment.

Located in Daishan town in the central Zhoushan Islands, Qushan Island Wind Power Plant is the largest wind power project in Zhejiang province.

Clean energy produced by the wind power plant can support the construction of a petroleum refining base in Yushan Island. The base will form a complete industrial chain integrating oil refining, chemical engineering, and high-end new materials. After being put into operation, its annual sales are expected to reach 250 billion yuan ($38.84 billion).

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as well as the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government recently jointly issued a five-year action guideline on building the province into a demonstration zone for achieving common prosperity, including efforts to promote rural tourism and create a more livable residential environment.
