Eight athletes from Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, will compete in the upcoming 14th National Games in Xi'an, Shaanxi province from Sept 15 to 27.

The eight include track and field athletes Rao Xinyu and Zhong Hanzhe, wrestlers Bei Jiahui and Jiang Yuan, basketball players Lu Wenbo and Guokuo, and volleyball players Shen Jiarong and Jiang Yuxiao.

Jiang Yuan will compete in the Games on behalf of Shanghai while the other Zhoushan athletes will be participating under Zhejiang.

"It is not easy to qualify for the National Games as athletes must rank top 16 nationwide in their events," said Ge Haiwei, wrestling coach at the Zhoushan Youth Sports School.

Ge said his two students Bei Jiahui and Jiang Yuan are expected to pocket medals at the Games.

Bei was placed among the top eight in the many national competitions he has competed in, while Jiang has been undergoing training with the national team and serving as a training partner for Olympic athletes.

Rao Xinyu is another athlete with a good chance of winning a medal, according to Shen Kefeng, the track coach at the youth sports school.

The 14th National Games will feature 35 sports, 32 of which will be staged in Shaanxi and three in other provinces.
