Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province was listed among the first group of pilot low-carbon counties and districts in the province, local media reported on Aug 11.

Currently, Putuo has established the province's largest wind power project, which has an annual electric energy production of over 700 million kilowatt-hours and can reduce carbon emissions by 700,000 metric tons annually.

The district also has attracted a liquefied natural gas project, which has an investment of 36 billion yuan ($5.56 billion) and an annual receiving capacity of 27 million tons. The first cold chain logistics car and passenger car powered by hydrogen fuel cells in Zhejiang was put into operation in Putuo.

In recent years, the district has made use of its geographical position and coastal resources to construct a green energy industrial system with photovoltaic, offshore wind power, ocean energy, and other clean energy sectors as upstream industries, with the hydrogen industry as its core clean energy industry.
