A sand sculpture in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province continues to hold the world record for tallest sand sculpture at 22.43 meters, local media reported.

At the 12th China (Zhoushan) International Sand Sculpture Festival in 2010, the sand sculpture Why Is the Hummingbird King of All Animals was identified as the tallest in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records.

It took more than 70 days for 20 sand sculptors from eight countries to complete the sand sculpture, which covers an area of 3,000 square meters.

The sculpture depicts a scene in which an eagle who wants to be the king of all animals feels tired and the hummingbird that has been hiding on its back rises up suddenly to become the king of all animals.

Zhoushan has held the festival for 22 years in a row and this year's edition began on June 25.

Themed around the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the festival features a series of sand sculptures created in tribute to the CPC's centenary.
