Xiubei village in Daishan county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, recently received the highest honor from provincial authorities for its well-protected natural environment and culture, local media reported.

Over the past three years, Xiubei invested more than 27 million yuan ($4.22 million) in restoring ancient buildings and paths, landscaping local areas, improving infrastructure and developing tourism.

Today, Zhoushan is home to seven provincial historical and cultural villages. Five cultural villages are also under construction.
