Zhoushan to build 400 children's centers in 2022

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province plans to build 400 children's centers by 2022, local media reported on May 28.

This year, the city is expected to build 165 children's centers, making every town and subdistrict in Zhoushan home to one or more such facilities.

Fifteen children's centers in the city were in 2020 shortlisted as demonstration zones that others should emulate.

Located at the community service center, the Puxi Community Children's Center is equipped with educational toys and computers. The community organized 12 activities for more than 1,500 children last year.

The Maile Children's Center in Dinghai district is managed by a third party and includes functional zones for reading, playing, and popularization of science. Besides four professional staff members, the children's center also has 45 regular volunteers and nearly 300 temporary volunteers.

The aim of the children's centers is to provide stay-at-home children and poverty-stricken children with a conducive development environment that offers care, entertainment activities, and psychological counseling.

In 2020, Zhoushsan published a three-year plan to construct children's centers in response to the provincial government's decision.
