Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province is exploring bolstering its economic vitality by integrating its abundant tourism resources with the internet celebrity economy, local media reported recently.

"Zhoushan has advantages for developing its internet celebrity economy," said Li Zhen, senior lecturer at the Party School of the Putuo District Committee of CPC, who has conducted research on the internet celebrity economy.

Li found that Zhoushan is abundant in various natural and cultural resources, including marine culture, fishing port culture, and Guanyin, or Avalokitesvara, culture.

She noted that she believes that there is no similar city in Zhejiang and the Yangtze River Delta region, adding that with fine-tuned targeting and appropriate packaging, Zhoushan will surely become a popular tourist destination in the country.

Exploring Zhoushan's characteristics is an efficient and sustainable way to attract more tourists for the city. Livestreaming hosts can be invited to broadcast their unique experiences in Zhoushan, including catching fish, as well as making red bayberry wine and seafood dishes with local fisherwomen, Li said.

In addition, local scenic spots could benefit from the internet celebrity economy. For example, the nighttime tour in Zhoushan's New City highlights numerous popular tourism elements in the city, while Luxiaxu village has transformed its vacant residential buildings into bars, bookstores, homestays, and tea houses to attract tourists interested in experiencing a rural lifestyle.

Li also suggested that the local government should offer financial support to bolstering its internet celebrity economy, such as preferential policies and subsidies in venues, taxation, and logistics. She also suggested that they should increase efforts to improve its business environment for the internet celebrity economy.
