Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province had a population of nearly 1.16 million permanent residents as of Nov 1, 2020, according to the latest national population census.
The permanent residential population in the city increased 3.2 percent from 10 years ago when the figure was over 1.12 million.
An average family household in Zhoushan had 2.15 people, down 0.24 people from 2010. The decrease in family scale was mainly due to the increase of immigrant families and the growing trend of young people moving out of their family home after getting married.
A total of 288,093 permanent residents, or 24.88 percent, were aged above 60, and 197,848, or 17.09 percent, were aged above 65. Both figures were 9.15 percentage points and 6.59 percentage points higher than in 2010.
A total of 113,597 permanent residents, or 9.81 percent, were aged below 14, 0.38 percentage points lower than in 2010.
Of the total permanent residents, male residents accounted for 52.82 percent, while female residents made up 47.18 percent. The gender ratio of males to females among the city's permanent residents was 111.94:100, 1.51 percentage points higher than in 2010.
Zhoushan was home to 832,390 permanent residents in its urban area, while its permanent residential population in its rural area amounted to 325,427. The former's ratio was increased 8.3 percent than in 2010.
Among the city's permanent residents, 209,704 had college degrees or higher qualifications.
