Zhoushan sees increase in trademark application, registration

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province experienced a significant increase in the number of trademark applications and registrations during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), local media reported on May 13.

The number of trademark applications and registrations increased 4.4 times and 3.7 times than that during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-15) respectively.

From 2016 to 2020, there were 144,577 trademark applications and 8,564 trademark registrations in Zhoushan. By the end of 2020, the city had 12,300 valid registered trademarks, 2.6 times more than that at the end of 2015.

Zhoushan also cultivated and promoted public brands for local products during the same period, including "Dinghaishan" for agricultural products, "Jintang Screw", and "Liuheng Meter".

Four products produced in Zhoushan obtained protection from the European Union (EU) last year, namely Shengsi mussels, Putuo Buddha tea, Zhoushan blue crabs, and Zhoushan hairtail.

In addition, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, companies in the city also witnessed improved capacity in innovation and creation.

In 2020, the Zhoushan branch of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co, Sunsun Group Co, Paxocean Engineering (Zhoushan) Co, and Yangfan Group Co topped the list for patent application, patent licensing, invention patent licensing, and valid invention patent amount at 55, 29, 13, and 30 respectively.

The city also established service windows for China National Intellectural Property Administration's trademark business and the registration of the pledge of intellectual property rights.

Moving forward, Zhoushan will finish the plan for the development of IP rights during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) as soon as possible to improve relevant policies and to cultivate more high-quality IP rights.
