The Chinese Prose Creation Base was recently inaugurated in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province to honor the Chinese writer Sanmao, local media reported.

A writers' studio was also established on the same day, which consists of the prize winners of the first two editions of the Sanmao Prose Prize and the prize's judges.

These writers expressed their determination at the inauguration ceremony that they will organize creation activities to tap into local literature resources, as well as bolster the reputation of Dinghai and Zhoushan.

Sanmao was the pen name of Echo Chen Ping, a Chinese writer and translator from Taiwan. Her works range from autobiographical writing, travel writing, and reflective novels to translations of Spanish-language comic strips.

The ancestral residence of Sanmao was built by her grandfather in Chen village, Dinghai district, Zhoushan during the Republic of China period (1912-1949).

To honor Sanmao's outstanding accomplishments, People's Literature magazine, the Zhejiang Writers Association, and Dinghai district launched the Sanmao Prose Prize in 2016. Today, the prize is considered one of the three major literary awards in the province.
