Zhoushan tourism industry generates 2.8b yuan in Q1

The tourism industry in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province generated 2.82 billion yuan ($435.29 million) in the first quarter of the year, a year-on-year increase of 155.2 percent, local media reported on April 26.

The city received more than 2.12 million tourists during the three-month period, a year-on-year increase of 158.5 percent.

In March alone, Zhoushan received over 1 million tourists and the industry generated 1.33 billion yuan, with year-on-year increases of 329.6 percent and 328.4 percent respectively.

The number of visitors who stayed overnight in Zhoushan from Ningbo, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Jiaxing, and Hangzhou ranked top five among Zhejiang cities, while the number of visitors from Henan, Jiangsu, Anhui, Fujian, and Shandong provinces ranked top five among other Chinese provinces.

Islands tourism has been popular among Zhoushan's visitors. Statistics about eight tourism islands in the city showed that more than 2.15 million tourists visited these islands from January to March, a year-on-year increase of 166.09 percent.

During the first three months of this year, Zhoushan also compiled a five-year plan for the development of its modern marine tourism industry, which specifies the ways to develop water recreational activities, high-end accommodation, and other related sectors, with 36 projects and 50 companies to be introduced.
