Updated : 2021-03-31 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Regulations on the pollutants from ships at ports in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province are set to take effect on July 1 following the approval from provincial authorities on March 26, local media reported.

Zhoushan is a port city and the natural environment at ports can greatly affect its appearance, as well as the life quality of local residents.

The city expects that these regulations will improve its efficiency in the collection, storage, transportation, utilization, and disposal of these pollutants.

These regulations specify the legal limits regarding the production, discharge, reception, transportation, storage, and disposal of ship pollutants, as well as provide a distinct legal basis for closed-loop management.

The regulations also define ship pollutants, which are the substances that are produced by ships and their relevant works that may pollute and damage the environment, such as ship garbage, domestic wastewater, oily sewage, bottom oil, wastewater containing toxic and harmful liquid or substances, exhaust gas, as well as noise.

The regulations also clarify the responsibilities of relevant government departments to enhance their monitoring and management of ship pollutants.

In addition, the regulations encourage companies and individuals to monitor and report such behavior like the illegal reception, storage, transportation, as well as disposal of ship pollutants.
