Zhoushan to promote high-quality development in education

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province plans to achieve high-quality development in education this year, according to a citywide meeting on education held in the city on Feb 23.

Zhoushan will establish, expand or renovate 12 kindergartens. It will also begin the establishment or expansion of five middle and primary schools, as well as finish the establishment or expansion of another five middle and primary schools this year.

In terms of senior high school education, the city will improve the school operation conditions for five senior high schools this year, including Putuo High School and Baiquan High School, as well as promote characteristic education in four senior high schools, including Zhoushan High School and Putuo High School.

In terms of life-long education, Zhoushan will establish a comprehensive management service platform for senior education and open more than three schools for seniors this year, bringing senior education resources to 40 percent of its total population of people aged 60 years old and older.

The number of people receiving senior education training is expected to account for over 25 percent of the total receiving continuing education training in the city this year.

In addition, Zhoushan will also make efforts to guarantee more than 90 percent of kindergarten and senior high school enrollment for children with disabilities and that all of them will receive compulsory education this year.
