Ancient Dinghai town in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently recognized as a provincial demonstration location by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Zhejiang, local media reported.
Dinghai town is the only renowned one in China featuring island culture. With a history of 1,000 years, it is home to a number of historic streets built during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, including Chaishui Street, Liufang Road, and Xidajie Street.
The city was once a military fortress and has many historic sites related to famous historical events, including the Opium War.
