The sixth session of the Seventh Zhoushan Municipal People's Congress commenced in the city of Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Feb 3.

Deputies listened as He Zhongwei, mayor of Zhoushan, delivered the municipal government's annual work report, highlighting several significant achievements that have been made.

He stressed the city's economic achievements, with an average annual GDP growth of 9.2 percent during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) period, ranking first in the province.

Per capita GDP in Zhoushan increased to 127,000 yuan ($20,000) in 2020 from 81,000 yuan in 2015 while the income ratio of urban to rural residents in the city shrank from 1.73 in 2015 to 1.63 in 2020, he added.

2020 was an unusual year, as the COVID-19 pandemic raged across the world, but Zhoushan managed to achieve economic growth and maintain social stability, he said.

According to the mayor, Zhoushan's main economic indicators, including the added value of industries above designated size, foreign trade, and exports, were among the top performers in the province.

During his presentation, he also outlined a roadmap for the city's economic and social development this year.

The government will work to make breakthroughs in technological innovation, quality of life, natural environment, and government efficiency, he promised. The city aims for a 10 percent increase in GDP, 5 percent increase in fixed asset investment, and 25 percent increase in actual use of foreign capital this year.
