3 towns in Zhoushan win provincial recognition

Three towns in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, were recently recognized as Zhejiang Forest Towns in 2020 by the provincial department, local media reported on Jan 24.

A forest town refers to a place where the ecosystem comprises mainly of forest vegetation. This place also has a multifunctional utilization of forests and a keen focus on the coordinated development of rural and urban areas in greenery coverage.

To date, 16 towns or subdistricts in Zhoushan have attained this title.

The Xiaosha subdistrict in Dinghai district integrates local customs, natural resources, and special culture into the construction of a forest town. It has established rural parks, landscape parks, the Xiaosha Wetland Park as well as afforested a local reservoir. The subdistrict has also encouraged local villagers to plant trees. At present, six villages in Xiaosha have been recognized as forest villages at municipal or above level.

Dongsha town in Daishan county has made significant improvements in its greenery landscape and natural environment and accelerated the development of ecological industry. The town has constructed two special parks, renovated two river channels, and planted forests with colorful trees in four villages.

Daidong town in Daishan has created 18 mu (1.2 hectares) of greenery landscape, improved 32 mu of greenery landscape, and renovated 34-mu riverside areas and 78-mu forests and greenland.
