Zhoushan's GDP up 12% in 2020

Zhoushan, an island city in East China's Zhejiang province, achieved a 12 percent year-on-year increase in GDP last year, the fastest growth for the city over the past 12 years, local media reported on Jan 27.

The output of aquatic products in the city amounted to 1.79 million metric tons in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 2.1 percent, including 631,000 tons by distant-water fisheries.

The industrial added value in Zhoushan jumped 60.2 percent year-on-year to 49.79 billion yuan ($7.71 billion) last year.

The added value of high-tech, energy saving and environmental protection manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, core digital manufacturing, and strategic emerging industries in the city increased 96.3 percent, 32.9 percent, 18 percent, 11.7 percent and 9.2 percent respectively in 2020.

The total output value of petrochemical, machinery manufacturing, shipbuilding, and cement and its products industries accounted for 74.7 percent of the total in the city last year.

The online retail sales in the city rose 29.7 percent year-on-year to 8.06 billion yuan last year, 15.4 percentage points higher than the provincial average.

The city's imports and exports surged 21.3 percent year-on-year to 166.76 billion yuan in 2020, the fastest growth in the province. This included 58.81 billion yuan of exports, a year-on-year increase of 17.4 percent.

The actual utilization of foreign capital in the city also experienced the fastest growth in Zhejiang with a year-on-year increase of 170 percent to $402 million.

The cargo throughput in Zhoushan totaled 571.42 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.6 percent, including 1.67 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

The average concentration of PM 2.5 in the city was 17 microgram per cubic meters and the rate of days with good or excellent air quality was 97.8 percent.

The per capita disposable income of permanent urban residents and fishermen in Zhoushan increased 3.6 percent and 6.3 percent to 63,702 yuan and 39,096 yuan respectively in 2020.

An additional 40,000 people in the city were employed and the registered urban unemployment rate stood at 1.55 percent last year.

The China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in Zhoushan also saw stable development last year.

In 2020, 7,357 companies were registered in the Zhejiang FTZ, accounting for more than 70 percent of the city's total, including 1,880 oil product companies.

The Zhejiang FTZ traded 558.01 billion yuan worth of oil products last year, accounting for 96.2 percent of Zhoushan's total amount.

In 2020, the Zhejiang FTZ provided 7,517 ships with 4.72 million tons of bonded bunker oil, making it the largest bunker oil refueling port in China and the eighth in the world.
