Zhejiang province in East China has mapped out plans for the development of its prefecture-level city of Zhoushan in the following five years, local media reported.

The plans were contained in the provincial government work report tabled by governor Zheng Zhajie at the fifth session of the 13th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress held on Jan 26 in the capital city of Hangzhou.

The report states that Zhejiang will build the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone into a high standard and promote efficient investment and trade in the zone.

It also notes that Zhoushan should expand its river-sea combined transportation, develop the Ningbo, Hangzhou and Jinyi areas of the Zhejiang FTZ to higher levels and make advances in the rollout of a digital Zhejiang FTZ.

The city should closely follow a three-year plan to achieve high-quality trade development, improve its industry quality and structure, tap emerging markets while stabilizing traditional markets, encourage its companies to establish and share overseas warehouses and export more high-quality products, according to the work report.

It says that Zhoushan should strengthen its investment attractions, establish international industrial cooperation parks and promote the stable increase of foreign direct investment.

Zhoushan should also expand the influence of demonstration zones for economic cooperation and trade between China and Central and Eastern European Countries and dispatch more than 1,500 China-Europe freight trains.

Moreover, the city should speed up the construction of the Zhejiang International Oil and Gas Trade Center and the oil and gas futures and spot market in the Yangtze River Delta.

Zhoushan should start building the Ningbo-Zhoushan railway, according to the report. It should also promote the construction of the proposed Island Park – a project to leverage a group of islands with stunning scenery to capture a slice of the regional tourism market.
