Two ocean pastures in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, were recently recognized as national demonstration zones by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, making the city home to five such pastures, local media reported on Jan 10.

One of the ocean pastures is located in the waters of Taohua Island town, which has invested 30 million yuan ($4.63 million) in placing 990 multifunction reefs in its waters.

The other pasture is located in the Haungjiao Island waters to the east of Shengsi Island.

In recent years, the city has focused on the coordinated development of natural resources and fishery production and sought to transform its fishery economy by developing ocean pastures.

Zhoushan has also been working on improving the popularity and influence of its ocean pastures by integrating them with tourism and other industries.
