Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province received more than 220,000 tourists and raked in over 289.71 million yuan ($44.83 million) in tourism income during the three-day New Year's Day holiday, local media reported on Jan 4.
The total traffic flow on the Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge was more than 75,000, including 36,803 vehicles driving into Zhoushan.
Most of the tourists in Zhoushan came from the Yangtze River Delta while its Zhejiang tourists mainly came from Hangzhou and Ningbo.
Offshore island tourism, rural tourism and gourmet tours were well-received by Zhoushan's visitors, with self-guided and self-driving tours being the most popular.
The number of tourists to Dongji Island and Baisha Island grew by more than 50 percent year-on-year. The Luxiaxu village in Zhanmao subdistrict of Putuo district also saw a sharp increase in the number of tourists.
To welcome the new year, the tourism and cultural departments in Zhoushan organized a series of activities, including an indoor-cycling competition, art exhibitions and a trek in the mountains.
Due to COVID-19 prevention and control measures, all scenic areas were required to cap visitor numbers at 75 percent of maximum capacity. In addition, 147 inspectors were dispatched to public places and eight emergency response teams were deployed.
