Four rivers in Zhoushan win provincial recognition

Four rivers in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, were recently recognized as Beautiful Rivers along with 136 other rivers by the Zhejiang Water Conservancy Department and two other departments, local media reported on Dec 21.

Rivers in Baiquan town

The main Baiquan River extends about 7 kilometers through Baiquan town and is used for flood discharge and irrigation. Its water is crystal clear and egrets are commonly seen flying over its surface. It is known for its picturesque views and pleasant natural environment.

Rivers in Cengang subdistrict

Rivers in Cengang subdistrict, including the Cengang, Liangting, and Shuangya'ao rivers, have a total drainage area of 18.9 square kilometers and a combined length of 10.71 km. This year, the subdistrict established three featured areas along these rivers, including rosy river banks and flower ports, and constructed green paths, parks, and covered corridors along the rivers.

Guitai River in Qushan town

The 4.67-km Guitai River is an important source of drinking water and irrigation in Qushan and runs through four local communities. In recent years, the local government has taken measures to improve the environment along the river by establishing footpaths, sightseeing areas, and fountains.

Fengwu River in Liuheng town

Fengwu River has a total length of 3.4 km and in 2018, the local government spent 4 million yuan ($611,000) renovating the river course by establishing underwater forests, floating islands with plants and flowers, and fountains.

This year, the Liuheng town government invested another 150 million yuan establishing 10 parks along the river to create a more comfortable and beautiful natural environment for local residents.
