Jinshan village in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, was recently shortlisted to become a cultural village under provincial protection, local media reported on Dec 9.

The village will be allocated 7 million yuan ($1.07 million) to go toward village renovation and cultural protection by the local provincial government.

Jinshan is surrounded by green mountains and has a river running through it. It was established by the ancestor of the Jiang family during the reign of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and a complete genealogy of the Jiang family is still intact to this day.

Throughout its long history, the village has developed a distinct culture and is home to various intangible cultural heritage items, including Zhoushan drum playing and the dragon and lion dance.
