The second zone of the offshore wind power plant operated by GD Power Development Co on Liuheng Island in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has won the gold National Quality Engineering Award, local media reported on Dec 8.

The project is the first of its kind in Zhejiang and has the highest bearing platforms and longest test piles of any windmill in China.

The project started construction in 2017 and began operating in 2019 with 63 four-megawatt wind turbine generators. As of Nov 30, it had generated 1.41 billion kilowatt hours of power.

The project's successful completion indicates that China has, to some extent, mastered the advanced technology required for offshore wind power plants in areas with violent typhoons and thick silt.

It is expected to bring China's offshore wind power plant expertise to a world-class level and improve the international competitiveness of Chinese companies in the construction of offshore wind power plants.

Founded in 1981, the National Quality Engineering Award has been certified by the State Council as the earliest and highest-profile award for the engineering and construction industry in China.

The gold National Quality Engineering Award, the highest such honor in China, is given to the top winner of the National Quality Engineering Award.
