Zhoushan is an island city in East China's Zhejiang province with abundant rainfall and many rivers. It also has a number of unique bridges.
The oldest bridge in the city is Zhuangyuan (the title conferred upon the person with the highest score on the highest imperial examination) Bridge, which was built in 1189, the 16th year of the Chunxi reign of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279).
Its name comes from a stone with Chinese characters on it, which was unearthed during its construction. The Chinese characters read "Zhuangyuan are selected from people walking on the stone."
Niangniang (meaning "bride" in Chinese) Bridge is 200 years old and roughly 10 meters in length, 2 m in width, and 3 m in height. Legend has it that only by crossing this bridge can bridal sedan chairs enter the local village.
Siling Bridge is 20 m in length, 3.2 m in width, and 7 m in height. It was built with stones in a haphazard manner with no binding materials.

Huanlong Bridge is the smallest bridge in Zhoushan at 1.6 m in length, 1.3 m in width, and 1.65 m in height.
