Updated : 2020-12-03 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Construction of the second line of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Expressway will begin soon, according to local media reports on Dec 2.

On Nov 29, site selections and preliminary previews of land use and a public review were complete and the project will be constructed by sections, officials said.

The second line will be configured as a two-way, six-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour, except for the Jintang submarine section with a design speed of 80 km/h.

The 45-km expressway is designed to start from Haosifang transport hub in Ningbo, pass by Jintang Island, Cezi Island, Fuchi Island and finally end on Zhoushan Island.

Nineteen bridges with a total length of more than 23 km (including three road-rail bridges), nine tunnels with a total length of 19.48 km (including one submarine tunnel), and three toll stations will be established along the expressway.

People that have traveled between Zhoushan and Ningbo by the only Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge have seen its vehicle volumes increase 6 to 10 percent annually over the past 11 years, with especially sharp growth in recent years.

Officials said that in order to offer a smoother movement of traffic between Zhoushan and Ningbo, Zhoushan's authorities decided to add another line to the existing Ningbo-Zhoushan Expressway.

In addition to expressways, the two cities will also be connected by railway, as construction of the Ningbo-Zhoushan railway will begin soon.
