Putuoshan Airport sees spike in monthly passenger growth

Updated : 2020-12-02 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Putuoshan Airport in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, experienced a 47 percent year-on-year increase in passenger flows in October, the largest number of people handled by an airport in East China, according to the statistics released by the CAAC East China Regional Administration.

In October the airport handled 197,300 passengers while in November it handled more than 200,000 passengers, which were record monthly throughputs.

Officials said that on Nov 8, the airport set a record for daily passenger flows, handling 7,689 passengers.

They said the spike in growth was mainly attributable to the airport's expanding business market.

In addition, there are 430 weekly flights at the airport, officials added.

Currently, 14 airlines have launched 23 routes at Putuoshan Airport, reaching 26 Chinese cities. From Dec 1, Zhoushan resumed flights to Xi'an city in Shaanxi province and from Dec 3, Zhoushan will open routes to Changsha in Hunan province.

According to head of Putuoshan Airport, the facility is expected to handle more than 2 million passengers in 2021.

Affected by the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year, the passenger throughput of Putuoshan Airport experienced a 38 percent year-on-year decline in the first 10 months of this year to more than 760,000, while its cargo throughput surged a 108.7 percent year-on-year to 702.2 metric tons during the same period.
