The Zhoushan International Grain and Oil Industrial Park has become an important grain distribution, processing, and trade center in the coastal areas of East China, local media reported on Nov 23.

The industrial park's annual imported grain exceeds 15 million metric tons, accounting for 13 percent of the national total. This includes 13.5 million tons of soy beans, making up 15 percent of the national total.

The industrial park is home to two 50,000-ton berths (capable of receiving an 80,000-ton ship), two 150,000-ton berths (capable of receiving a 200,000-ton ship), one 30,000-ton shipment berth, and one 5,000-ton shipment berth.

The six berths enable the industrial park to deliver 36.6 million tons of grains each year.

In addition, the industrial park houses more than 30 grain and oil processing and storage companies with a total annual processing capacity of 2.8 million tons and a storage capacity of 850,000 tons.

As of the end of October, the industrial output of companies above designated size in the industrial park had reached 3.57 billion yuan ($541.15 million), and roughly 15 million tons of grains had been imported through the industrial park, including 14 million tons of soy beans.

Moving forward, the industrial park plans to enhance its cooperation with customs and commodity trading houses and accelerate the construction of a bonded trade center for imported grain.

Moreover, it aims to increase its annual processing capacity to more than 4 million tons, its storage capacity to 2 million tons, and its annual throughput capacity to 40 million tons by 2025.
