More than 13,000 runners from around China participated in the 2020 Zhoushan Islands Marathon on Nov 15 in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported.

The marathon offered four separate races: a full marathon, a half marathon, and two mini marathons covering distances of 42.195 kilometers, 21.0975 km, 6 km, and 3 km, respectively.

After a fiercely competitive race, Cen Wanjiang and Yang Hua, both from Guizhou province, won first place in the full marathon in the male and female divisions, respectively.

In order to ensure safety, all participants were required to have their temperatures taken and present a green health QR code before entering the competition area.

In addition, 1,741 volunteers were recruited to guide runners and provide supplies along the race course and 21 ambulances, 29 automated external defibrillators (AED), and 159 medical workers were stationed at 36 medical stations along the course to guarantee the safety of runners.

The organizing committee also launched a series of preferential policies allowing participants to go sightseeing and live in Zhoushan more easily.

The course for the Zhoushan Islands Marathon, the only island marathon in China, spans two islands and boasts beautiful coastal scenery. It has been named the "Most Beautiful Race Course in China" by the Chinese Athletics Association.
