Worn-out fishing nets are replacing plastic bags as a means of holding garbage on boats in Changtu town, Daishan county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported on Nov 2.

It was the members of the Jinyin Fishingwomen Association who came up with the idea. They started to transform worn-out fishing nets and leftover net materials into reusable garbage bags, which were welcomed by local fishermen and have been used on some local fishing boats.

"The fishing net garbage bags are eco-friendly and money-saving and we hope that this kind of garbage bags will gradually replace the plastic ones," said Hu Songsu, chairwoman of the Jinyin Fishingwomen Association.
