Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province received more than 1.42 million tourists during the National Day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 16.09 percent, local media reported on Oct 9.

The tourism industry in the city generated 1.9 billion yuan ($283.79 million) in revenue during the eight-day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 13.66 percent.

Tourists from Zhejiang accounted for 68 percent of the total tourists, while tourists from Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan and Shanghai accounted for 21 percent.

Zhoushan Island received more than 470,000 vehicles, while Daishan Island, Gouqi Island, and Yangshan Island received 205,700 tourists, 77,000 tourists, and 19,000 tourists respectively.

The average occupancy rate of hotels in Zhoushan was 60.45 percent, a year-on-year increase of 2.88 percent, while that of boutique homestays in the city was 62.47 percent, with the highest being 78.63 percent in Zhujiajian scenic spot.

Cultural and tourism institutions in Zhoushan organized a dazzling array of activities to entertain tourists, including holding art shows, sand fairs, and concerts as well as releasing lotus lanterns.
