Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province is expected to transport 3.6 million people during the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, according to the local municipal transport bureau on Sept 29.
The bureau predicted that due to the pandemic and free road tolls for small vehicles, more people will prefer to drive their own cars, meaning that passenger volume of public transport in Zhoushan will decline.
The city is expecting to see 2.1 million people on its roads during the upcoming holiday, a year-on-year decrease of 30 percent, with medium- and short-distance passengers making up the largest portion. Sept 30, Oct 1, Oct 7, and Oct 8 are expected to be the peak travel times.
Waterways in Zhoushan are expecting to see 1.54 million passengers during the same period, a slight increase over last year. Oct 2 to 4 is expected to be the peak travel period.
During the holiday, Zhoushan will operate 1,678 coaches with 61,679 seats and 177 boats with 44,317 seats as well as 900 parking spaces.
The Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge, which connects Zhoushan with Ningbo, will experience an increase in traffic due to the good weather during the holiday, the preferential policies of scenic spots, and the commencement of fishing season in Zhoushan.
Traffic on the Zhoushan Cross-Sea Bridge is expecting to increase 10 percent year-on-year and Oct 3 will be the peak travel time.
Peak times for entering the island will be 9 am to 3 pm from Oct 1 to 3 and 9 am to 11 am from Oct 4 to 8, while peak times for leaving the island will be 10 am to 5 pm from Oct 1 to 3 and 9 am to 2 pm from Oct 4 to 8.
