JD Logistics expected to boost seafood business in Zhoushan

Updated : 2020-09-28 (chinadaily.com.cn)

JD Logistics Inc will start operating at the Zhoushan International Aquatic Products Center in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, according to a signing ceremony between the two sides on Sept 25.

"Our cold-chain transportation system enables Beijing buyers to receive fresh aquatic products from Zhoushan before 8 pm the day after placing an order," said Gao Xiaowei, director of the sales development department of JD Logistics in Zhejiang.

Gao added that residents of nearly 100 cities throughout China will be able to receive fresh seafood from Zhoushan within 24 hours, and residents of Ningbo, Shanghai and other surrounding cities will be able to receive Zhoushan-farmed seafood in just eight hours.

JD Logistics has established warehouses in Zhoushan, where e-commerce traders can place their products. The products will be sent directly to buyers from the warehouse after receiving online orders, according to Gao.

JD Logistics also plans to establish a cold-chain base in Zhoushan, which will expand its business in the city from the transportation of fresh seafood to the transportation and sale of frozen and dried aquatic products.

"E-commerce trading of aquatic products in Zhoushan got a late start and has a weak foundation compared to that in Shanghai and other first-tier cities in China," noted Zhang Li, who is in charge of the Zhoushan International Aquatic Products Center.

The center currently houses more than 400 aquatic product suppliers, only 100 of which are engaged in e-commerce, according to Zhang.

He expressed hope that more aquatic product suppliers will engage in e-commerce with the help of JD Logistics, leading to the further development of the seafood industry in Zhoushan.
