Fourteen international students at Zhejiang Ocean University (ZJOU) from 10 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative visited the Opium War Ruins Park in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on Sept 24.

Professor Wang Jinbao from ZJOU taught them about the Second Opium War, which occurred from 1856 to 1860. Dinghai district in Zhoushan was one of the main battlefields.

The Opium War Ruins Park, covering an area of 12 hectares, was established in 1997. It was converted from the original Zhushan Park and includes a memorial hall, an ancient fort, memorial sculptures, and tombs of soldiers who were killed in the war.
