Renovation of old communities benefits 25,000 residents

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province started renovating old residential communities last year, Zhoushan Daily reported on Sept 23.

For example, Dongyuan Community, established in 1990, now faces many issues, including aging pipelines, window bars falling off, and cracked walls.

"I live on the fourth floor in the community and the wall will leak water when it rains," Said Sun Wenzhen, "I really envy residents of surrounding communities because their buildings have been renovated by the local government and I'm looking forward to the renovation of our community as well."

After thorough research, local government departments formulated a detailed renovation plan to solve existing problems and paint buildings in the community.

Clogged drains and poor drainage were also a headache for local residents. However, a newly-paved rainwater pipeline solved the problem.

The local government has also created a mini-park to improve the wellbeing of Dongyuan Community residents.

The parks, filled with grass and other plants, are quite popular among residents, who usually go outside to chat or walk after dinner there.

To date, Zhoushan has renovated 1,141 buildings in 122 old communities, benefiting more than 25,000 residents.
