A summit discussing the development of the petrochemical industry with the help of technology was held in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Sept 17, local media reported.

The summit was sponsored by the Putuo district government and attended by more than 300 representatives from energy and chemical institutions, renowned oil and gas companies, and other relevant companies in China.

Xu Weibo, acting head of Putuo district, delivered a speech at the summit, saying that Putuo is an important marine gateway of the east coast of China and the Yangtze River valley to other countries.

Xu added that Putuo has long ranked among the top three island counties/districts in China in terms of economic strength, and in recent years, it has ramped up efforts to develop the oil and gas industries.

Putuo will make full use of its strengths in geographical positioning, policies, energy, and industry to promote reforms in energy consumption, supply, and technology, according to Xu.

He also noted that Putuo plans to build the largest data and supercomputing centers in China in order to support the development of a digital Yangtze River Delta and currency digitalization.

Meanwhile, industry experts discussed energy trade and cooperation among countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative and development trends in international oil and gas trade.
