Xiaogan island in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province has ramped up efforts to develop its international maritime service industry, local media reported on Sept 10.

The island is home to nearly all of the major international maritime service anchorage grounds in Zhoushan, as it is adjacent to Mazhi anchorage ground, Zhoushan's largest, to the south and is 10 to 15 sea miles away from Xiazhimen and Tiaozhoumen anchorage grounds.

At present, it is the anchorage ground where international ships can receive bonded oil in Zhoushan.

Statistics show that in the first eight months of this year, four major anchorage grounds at Zhoushan Port provided 1.22 million metric tons of bonded oil to 1,561 international ships, a year-on-year increase of 60 percent.

Xiaogan island plans to offer maritime services to roughly 100,000 international ships passing by Zhoushan per year.

At present, more than 60 maritime service suppliers are operating on the island, including Ben Line, Golden Harvest, and Sinochem Energy.

In the future, the island plans to construct a maritime service base and river-sea combined transportation service center to develop its ship maintenance industry, cultivate maritime professionals, and serve international sailors.
