Two individuals from Zhoushan, Zhejiang province were commended for their roles in fighting the COVID-19 epidemic at a meeting to honor role models in China's fight against the epidemic held in Beijing on Sept 8, local media reported.

Yan Jianbo, director of the Zhoushan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, led his team in carrying out research and disinfection work in Zhoushan to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Yan also assisted local companies in resuming operations amid the epidemic by formulating precise supervision and risk-rating plans.

Liu Jun, deputy director of the Zhoushan Municipal Bureau of Public Security, has also played a crucial role in preventing and controlling COVID-19 in Zhoushan. On Jan 23, the very beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in China, Liu volunteered to bring police officers to establish a temporary check point at the only highway service station in Zhoushan.

During his time on duty, Liu checked 58,031 vehicles, prevented 9,074 vehicles from entering Zhoushan and sent 130 people for further medical observation.
