He Zhongwei, mayor of Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, visited Dazhou, a city in Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Sept 2 to consolidate the city's poverty alleviation achievements, local media reported.

Guo Hengxiao, mayor of Dazhou, thanked Zhoushan for supporting Dazhou's poverty relief efforts at a meeting with the Zhoushan mayor.

Guo expressed hope that the two cities would maintain regular communication and enhance cooperation in logistics, industrial parks, consumer markets, and tourism.

He said that Zhoushan has always regarded poverty alleviation cooperation between East and West China as one of its primary duties and that poverty relief efforts in Dazhou have been seeing strong results in recent years.

He promised that Zhoushan would continue supporting Dazhou by helping it develop its local industries, promoting local products, and offering jobs to Dazhou natives.

During his stay in Dazhou, He also visited a local tea garden and rose industrial park.

Zhoushan has spent 219.6 million yuan ($32.14 million) helping Dazhou, benefiting more than 55,000 impoverished people, since the two cities began cooperating in 2018.

As of early this year, there was no longer any poverty in Dazhou.
