The cargo throughput of the terminal in the Zhoushan Port Free Trade Zone stood at 1.033 million metric tons as of July 18 this year, representing an increase of 112 percent year-on-year, local media reported.
This figure exceeded the total registered amount throughout the entirety of the previous year.
This robust growth is primarily due to the port operator's efforts to expand its bulk cargo and container volume and tap into the domestic market.
The port handled 764,000 tons of bulk cargo over this period, up 274 percent year-on-year, while the throughput of construction materials was 400,000 tons.
Domestic trade currently accounts for 60-70 percent of the port's total business volume.
