An aircraft carrying 131 passengers from Ji'nan, capital of Shandong province, arrived at the Putuoshan Airport in Zhoushan on July 15.
The flight linking Ji'nan, Zhoushan and Quanzhou was Zhoushan's final domestic flight to be resumed since the onset of the COVID-19 epidemic.
In addition to the airport's original 18 destinations, including Beijing, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Quanzhou, and Yantai, the airport has also introduced two direct flights to Xuzhou, Jiangsu province and Huizhou, Zhejiang province.
The estimated daily passenger throughput is expected to exceed 4,000 per day, roughly 80 percent of the throughput before the outbreak.
In the first half of this year, the airport served 164,000 passengers, official data show.
A spokesman from the Putuoshan Airport predicted that the number of passengers will see further growth in the coming days as epidemic control measures are relaxed and the summer holiday approaches.
