English lecture teaches foreigners about traffic rules

Updated : 2020-07-02

Zhoushan traffic authorities organized a traffic-safety-themed English lecture at Zhejiang Ocean University on June 30.

The lecture was attended by 46 international students from the school and is part of local police efforts to help foreigners in the city learn about local traffic laws and regulations.

Foreigners occasionally break traffic rules in Zhoushan, sometimes with two people sitting on an electric bike at once or not wearing helmets while on an electric bike.

However, due to language barriers, police on duty have difficulty educating them on traffic rules.

In an attempt to solve this issue, local traffic police organized the lecture at Zhejiang Ocean University, where most foreigners in the city come from.

"We hope the lecture will help foreign students better understand and abide by traffic laws," said Wang Jinbao, director of the international exchange and cooperation department at Zhejiang Ocean University.

After the lecture, local traffic authorities presented each attendee with a helmet.

They have also set up cooperative relations with several schools to encourage international students to volunteer to promote local traffic rules. Next, authorities plan to hold similar English lectures at shipyards and other places where foreigners gather.
