The cargo throughput of Daishan Port in the Zhejaing FTZ stood at 63.25 million tons from January to May, an increase of 23.6 percent year-on-year, official data show.
The port's outbound cargo throughput rose 19.3 percent to 37.77 million tons over the five-month period, while inbound throughout reached 25.48 million tons, a yearly uptick of 30.6 percent.
The majority of goods that passed through the port were iron ore and oil and gas products.
The port's Shulanghu area alone handled 27.38 million tons of iron ore in the first five months of this year, 23.4 percent more than the same period last year. This made iron ore a primary driver of growth for Daishan Port.
Meanwhile, the port's throughput of oil, gas, and related products amounted to 6.7 million tons, an increase of 155,000 tons over last year.
In addition, the Huangzeshan Oil Product Storage and Transportation Center, which began trial operations at the end of October last year, received a total of 470,000 tons of oil in the first quarter.
Daishan Port is expected to see continued growth in cargo throughput as a new series of affiliated ports are put into use.
