The Wandao waxberry, a specialty waxberry native to Zhoushan, has been dubbed the "tastiest waxberry on the planet" by the Japanese.

The waxberry, which ripens about 20 days later than other varieties, is renowned for its glutinous and sweet taste.

The fruit produced in Gaoxie village, Baiquan town, Dinghai district is often considered the highest qualtiy.

Zhoushan has a 700-year history of growing Wandao waxberries, and a waxberry tree with an age of more than 150 years located in Baiquan town is said to be the oldest Wandao waxberry tree in China.

The fruit's high quality is primarily due to the local climate and soil conditions. The subtropical marine climate of Zhoushan can provide waxberries with adequate sunshine and water, while the soil around Baiquan town, with its moderate pH value and rich nutrients, is highly suitable for the fruit's growth.

The fruit is expected to hit the market in the city in two weeks, and around three times more berries than last year are expected to be produced this year.
