Zhoushan, Ningbo strengthen cooperation in food, drug inspection

Updated : 2020-06-04 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhoushan and Ningbo recently reached a strategic cooperation agreement regarding the inspection and testing of food and drugs.

According to the agreement, a mechanism will be established between the two cities to coordinate the inspection and testing of food and drugs. Inspection results by either city will be recognized by both cities.

An employee at the Zhoushan Institute of Food and Drug Inspection and Testing said that the two cities will make concerted efforts to develop an integrated inspection and testing technology service platform and marine industry quality control and standardization research platform based on their strengths in marine biology, marine medicine, and marine protection and development.

The two parties also plan to establish standardized regional food and drug emergency mechanisms to increase safety and handle other technical issues.

Food and drug researchers from the two places plan to maintain close cooperation so as to jointly tackle common technical problems and share results.

According to an action plan released by the governments of the two cities in August last year, the integrated development of Zhoushan and Ningbo is expected to make substantial progress by 2025.

Specific systems and mechanisms for strengthening the integrated development will be put in place. Such systems will involve infrastructure, science and innovation, environmental protection, and public services, according to the plan.

Zhoushan is an island city located 86.1 kilometers from Ningbo. It takes around 90 minutes by car to travel between the two cities.
