The opening ceremony of the Maao Museum was held in Dinghai district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province on May 25.
The Maao Museum, Zhejiang's first township-level museum, serves as a provincial patriotism and science education center. Construction on the center began in 1994 and was completed in 2001. It covers an area of 3,333 square meters and has a construction area of 2,100 square meters.
Outdated facilities inside the museum were recently renovated, a process that took two months.
The museum's new look is meant to embody Zhoushan and honor the city's Maao community.
The museum's exhibition hall houses a collection of more than 500 cultural relics from a variety of different time periods, including the Neolithic Age, the Shang and Zhou dynasties (c. 11th century-256 BC), and the Tang (618-907) and Song dynasties (960-1279).
It serves as a platform for Zhoushan to honor and preserve its ancient and prehistoric civilizations.
