The number of newly registered companies in the Marine Industry Cluster Zone in Zhoushan Archipelago New Area hit a record high in April, indicating a steady growth of confidence among local market entities.

Official statistics show that a total of 643 enterprises were registered in the zone in April, accounting for 25.35 percent of all newly registered enterprises in Zhoushan. The figure represented an increase of 40.39 percent over March and a year-on-year uptick of 50.94 percent.

Among the enterprises, 603 were registered online, a result of efforts by local authorities to facilitate the resumption of work and production.

As of April 30, the number of registered enterprises in the zone had reached 13,772, with registered capital totaling 296.45 billion yuan ($42.96 billion).

Zhoushan Archipelago New Area was officially approved by the State Council on June 30, 2010. It is the fourth State-level new area after Pudong New Area in Shanghai, Binhai New Area in Tianjin and Liangjiang New Area in Chongqing. It is also the first national new area focused on marine economy.
